Countdown to the start of the Principality of Monaco Trophy the Vintage Sails in the Lagoon BNL BNP Paribas Wealth Management Cup. The regatta, an event promoted by Anna Licia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice, will honor its tenth anniversary by lining up boats rich in history and with many important anniversaries on the starting line.

The tenth edition of the Trophy, which benefits from the patronage of the Municipality of Venice and the Navy, has recently been enriched with other entries of great interest: Athena of the Compagnia della Vela, a Sangermani launched in 1973 based on a project by Sparkman & Stephens, which in the lagoon will honor its first fifty years of life on the sea.

Palaia Tyche, an Apollonio shipyard that is celebrating 60 years; this boat, designed by the Englishman Alan Buchanan, is crewed by Sebastiano Chiggiato, nephew of the well-known yacht designer Artù Chiggiato. The story and works of this Venetian naval architect, born in 1902, were told in the book "Artù's boats".

Also entered is the over 100-year-old gaff schooner Morwenna, launched in 1914 in England by the Stow & Son shipyard to a design by Linton Hope. The boat, almost 20 meters long overall, had participated in the Fastnet in 1932 and was subsequently restored by the Chantier du Guip of Brest to then arrive in the Mediterranean in 2013. The sail plan is still the original one of the time. Among the smallest boats, Persefone, 6 meters long, restored by its owner, Marco Dissera Bragadin of Diporto Velico Veneziano. The project is by Carlo Sciarrelli, the Trieste master of classic boat design who passed away in 2006. One of the oldest boats still sailing in the Mediterranean could not be missing: Santa Maria Nicopeja, built in Normandy in 1901 and restored by the Luca Casaril shipyard in Venice.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Salone Nautico and Vela Spa, the fleet will be moored inside the Arsenale from 23 to 26 June. Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 the start of the two regattas to be held in the waters in front of the Venice Lido. Sunday morning around 11, before the second race, the competitors will parade for the traditional sailing in the San Marco Basin visible to the public along the banks.

The sporting management of the event will, as always, be entrusted to Mirko Sguario, president and founder of the Yacht Club Venezia and will take place in collaboration with the PortodiMare Sailing Club and with the patronage of A.I.V.E. Italian Association of Vintage Sails.
